Using the Moodle plugins

INSTRUCTORS

Instructors are privileged users that have permissions to edit or add new content to both Moodle and Babelium. Instructors can choose between using existing Babelium exercises or creating new exercises.

Content consumption workflow

1. ADD A NEW Assignment

  • Go to one of your courses
  • Turn editing on and click on Add an activity or resource
  • Choose Assignment and click on Add
  • Fill the Assignment name and Description fields
  • Go to the Submission types section
    • Check Babelium submissions
    • Pick an exercise from the list of Babelium exercises.
    • Uncheck File submissions
  • Go to Feedback settings
    • Feedback-comments: Yes
  • Save and display
  • While on the assignment view, to check how the learner will see the exercise and to make a test recording:
    • Settings menu > Choose another role > Student
    • Add submission
      • Choose a role: Learner
      • Choose recording method: Microphone only
      • Make a recording
      • If the Privacy Settings window appears
        • Show Privacy settings
        • Click on Allow and Remember, then on Close
        • Record
      • Review your recording or make a new recording (if the volume is very low or there’s no sound at all check your microphone’s settings)

2. Grade the assignment

After the assignment’s due the instructor will come back to review the work of the learners and to give them a grade and some feedback.

  • Go to one of your courses
  • Click on the assignment you gave to your learners
  • In the assignment area, to see the work of the learners:
    • View/grade all submissions
    • Choose one the learners that made a submission, you will see Submitted for grading on its row, and click on the pencil icon.
      • A new screen will appear, go to the row where it says Babelium submission and click on the + button. The submission of the student will appear and depending on the settings you chose you will have different grading and feedback options.

Content creation workflow

Content creation involves more steps and requires the instructor to enable his/her Babelium account. You can see a step by step explanation here: Content creation workflow.

LEARNERS

1. Record the assignment and submit your recording

  • Go to one of your courses
  • Click on the assignment the instructor scheduled
  • Click on the Add submission/Edit submission button
    • Choose a role: Learner
    • Choose recording method: Microphone only
    • Record
    • If the Privacy Settings window appears
      • Show Privacy settings
      • Click on Allow and Remember, then on Close
      • Record
    • Review your recording or make a new recording (if the volume is very low or there’s no sound at all check your microphone’s settings)
    • Save changes
  • You will see the message “Sorry your video is still processing” message if you try to preview your submission. The submission requires about 15 minutes to be ready (to merge or blend the original video with your submission).

2. See the grade and the feedback of the assignment

  • Go to the assignment or to your gradebook
  • See the score and the feedback the instructor gave you
